32. Moles are very frequently to be found in our garden. These annoying pests disturbplant roots as they tunnel miles of runs every day, pushing up unsightly mounds of soil
to the surface as they go. They also eat their own weight in worms every day, decimating
that beneficial population. Though supposedly solitary and territorial, I have intercepted
as many as five in one week at the same spot. Although they can operate during the daytime,
they seem to be most active during the hours of darkness, between the months of May and
